Financed by the National Institutes of Health and carried out over the past 6 years involving nearly 18,000 patients. The findings indicate that acupuncture outperformed standard medical care treatments and over-the-counter med's when used on people suffering from osteoarthritis, migraines and chronic back, neck & shoulder pain.  See more here - http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/09/11/acupuncture-provides-true-pain-relief-in-study/
