According to spine researcher Chien-Jen Hsu, MD, and a report published in the Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine, "By far the number one reason back surgeries are not effective, and why some patients experience continued pain after surgery, is because the disc lesion that was operated on is not, in fact, the cause of the patients' pain."
